USFSP College of Education Collaborative Digital Network (CDN) Portfolio

The CDN Portfolio System is a web-based information management system that uses electronic media and services. Through participation in this system, College of Education students build and maintain a digital repository of educational artifacts. This collection of artifacts comprises course assignments and documented work with children in the schools. Students use this collection to demonstrate their competence and to reflect on their learning as they are learning to teach. Throughout their time as students in any of the College’s programs, students have access to their records, to the digital repository, to faculty feedback and to self-reflections. This continual access and interaction with the system helps students achieve a greater understanding of their individual growth as educators. The system also provides students with the information they need for career planning and resume building. The Student Assessment System serves as a powerful tool for program improvement, communication with faculty, and educator preparation.

CDN Portfolio System allows each student to create his or her own e-portfolio, which is accessible from the web. This e-portfolio will allow students to upload artifacts serving to document their competence in each of the 12 Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAP) and in each of the 25 standards for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) along with the required annotations, which are used for faculty evaluation of the submitted artifacts. As students take courses and/or participate in field experiences in their programs, students self-select artifacts, from the ones identified by program faculty as aligned with FEAPs in the course assignments, and best represent their knowledge and skills in each of the twelve Pre-professional Educators Accomplished Practices. After the students submit their artifacts, which are accompanied by detailed annotations, they are evaluated by the faculty using standard FEAP rubrics.
